Amanda Garty

Amanda is an experienced trial litigator and appellate practitioner, who represents individuals charged with misdemeanor and felony offenses in state and federal court, at both the trial and appellate level.

Before working with Hoevet Olson, Amanda spent six years at the Oregon Court of Appeals as a staff attorney and senior staff counsel. At the court, Amanda provided specialized legal expertise on behalf of the court to advise the judges, clerks, and staff attorneys on substantive legal issues and to draft appellate court opinions for publication.

Prior to her appellate work, Amanda spent more than six years as a criminal defense attorney at Metropolitan Public Defenders, Janet Hoffman & Associates, and The Law Office of Amanda Garty. Amanda has handled hundreds of criminal cases at the trial level, ranging from misdemeanors to major felonies. She has represented individuals charged with a wide range of offenses, including drug, theft and other property crimes, driving under the influence intoxicants, assault, criminal mischief, and sex crimes. Amanda has tried cases before judges and juries in Washington, Multnomah, Lane, and Columbia Counties, and has won acquittals for her clients in both misdemeanor and felony cases.

Amanda has also defended individuals in academic and professional disciplinary proceedings.

Amanda graduated from the University of Oregon School of Law in 2010, where she was a staff editor for the Oregon Law Review and a judicial extern to the Honorable John V. Acosta, United States Magistrate Judge for the District of Oregon. After law school, Amanda clerked for the Honorable Kathleen M. Dailey at the Multnomah County Circuit Court.

Before law school, Amanda worked for three years at the Center for Biological Diversity as a conservation biology research assistant.
