Environmental crimes are Illegal acts which directly harm the environment, and they are now being prosecuted much more vigorously. They also have the potential for substantially greater punishment in cases of conviction.
Environmental crimes include illicit trade and disposal of hazardous waste; illegal logging and the associated trade in stolen timber; illegal trade and killing of wildlife; and illegal, unregulated and unreported fishing.
Environmental crimes can be prosecuted in both state and federal court, with national, state and local agencies working together on the investigations. Because of the possibility of dual prosecution, and that there may be overlapping law enforcement agencies, these cases tend to be very complex.
Our environmental crime attorneys have successfully defended individuals on many different alleged environmental crimes, ranging from the proper treatment of waste water by a municipality, the disposal of waste into the Pacific Ocean, the killing of big game, and violations of fish reporting regulations.
